I just talked to Nintendo support, you do have to have a paid Switch online subscription to even purchase the controller. Such a shame, I needed it to use with a blueretro adapter on my original Nintendo 64 console. Guess my two choices are to buy a switch and a subscription or pay a scalper

You do NOT need the expansion pass to buy this controller. Just regular NSO. (Unless it changed since I got mine last year)

At the end of the day its just a bluetooth controller; Ive paired my SNES controller to my laptop before. I imagine you could do the same with this one if you wanted.

Nintendo Store listing says, "Any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership required to purchase controller." I would read that as requiring only the basic paid online membership and not the expansion pass. But considering that you need the expansion pass to play N64 games at all, I also wouldn't be surprised if I were wrong about that.

Some tips for ordering.... be signed into your Nintendo account and make sure you have a payment method already added. I've missed out on items in the past taking the time to add my credit card.

I know it sucks but do your best to be patient. If we can show restraint hopefully, scalpers will stop trying since theyll be stuck sitting on a mountain of debt. Of course, if you cant wait any longer and can afford it, no shame. We all need that bit of happiness in life. Do whats best for you, but if you can wait. Know were all waiting with you. Scalpers can go to hell!
